I don't have too many mantel clocks, only a few actually but this is one of the first clocks I every purchased and I've had the movement apart many times for cleaning, for fixing, for replacing the main spring, so I feel like I have a very personal connection to this clock.

I have a pretty good quality stamped-metal Gilbert alarm clock. There is no model name on this
which is somewhat different, most manufacturers tried to differentiate themselves there. The center section has
embossed foil that's pasted on. It has delicate swirl patterns intermixed with horizontal stripping. I'm not so
sure about the font they chose, honestly it's a mixed bag of some Deco styling with more traditional. The number '2' seems
particularly at odds with the number '0', which is rather unique. But the clock is in good condition, keeps excellant time,
has a very pleasant sound, nice outline hands, and somewhat beefy proportions for an alarm clock of this period.

I recently purchased a wonderful stamped-metal Gilbert alarm clock. There is no model name on this
one either. Gilbert seems to have made some really large alarm clocks for the time. This one is huge: 6" tall, 5.5" wide and almost 2" deep.
It's loud too, how did people sleep next to one of these? This one is in relatively good condition, I've bid on others like it before so the
fact that it's been repainted doesn't bother me so much since it was at least done in a color that was very close to the original. I like the
wrap-around detail and feet on this one. It has luminous hands and dial face numbers...hmmm Radium perhaps? I don't have a geiger counter handy.
I try to avoid these as a general rule.
